Gehlot labels Rahul as the party’s PM face and claims only he can defeat Modi

Rahul Gandhi is the Congress’ prime ministerial representative and the only national politician capable of challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday.

He said that soon after the Supreme Court had overturned Gandhi’s conviction in the defamation case involving the Modi surname from 2019.

Gehlot, who previously seemed to be the front-runner for the position of Congress president, reiterated his preference to be involved in Rajasthan politics.

Rahul Gandhi is the PM face for us. The top leadership will decide how to rest,” the congressman informed the media. “We’ll see what develops in the future.”

Gehlot said that this has been the case ever since Gandhi presided as party president.

The CM was informed that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge recently said that the party is more interested in achieving opposition unity before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections than it is in being the Prime Minister.

Kharge could be correct, according to Gehlot, who said he was unaware of the conversation between the opposition leaders.

But he said, “The citizens of this nation and Congressmen know that if there is someone challenging Modi, it is Rahul Gandhi.”

Gehlot dismissed the idea that, if the Congress wins this year’s Rajasthan Assembly elections, he would run for prime minister himself in 2024.

The CM said that he had made up his mind to remain in Rajasthani politics. “I have made a commitment to serve Rajasthan till I die. Therefore, the topic of running for office in Delhi politics would never come up,” he said.

He said that his work would be the cornerstone for his campaign in Rajasthan.

The Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday clears the path for Gandhi to rejoin the Lok Sabha. The leader received a two-year punishment from a lower court, which resulted in the disqualification of the leader in March.
