Goyal will attend US meetings of APEC and IPEF

Goyal will have bilateral discussions with US Trade Representative Katherine Tai, US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, and ministers from other IPEF member nations when he is in the country. These gatherings will focus on lowering trade obstacles, encouraging investments, and building stronger collaboration in fields like innovation and technology.

On November 16, the Union Minister will represent India at the IPEF Investor Forum and the Leaders’ Meeting of the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII). Additionally, he will represent India at the November 15–16 APEC Economic Leaders Engagements, according to a statement released on Friday by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

India has been invited as a guest economy to the 30th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in 2023.

Goyal will also speak at a joint event on the “India-USA Innovation Handshake Initiative,” which is co-chaired by the US Commerce Secretary. The initiative’s goals are to address specific regulatory barriers to cooperation, connect and elevate the dynamic startup ecosystems of the two countries, and foster innovation and job growth, particularly in emerging technologies.

In addition, the Union Minister will meet one-on-one with CEOs and participate in the investors’ roundtable. In the Bay Area, particularly in Silicon Valley, he will engage with students, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, the Indian diaspora, and academic communities. He will also hold targeted talks with American businesses seeking to expand or invest in India in industries such as technology, FinTech, electronics (including semiconductors), and so on.

IPEF aims to promote progress, peace, and prosperity in the area by strengthening economic ties between member nations. The framework is organized around four main economic pillars: supply chains, commerce, the clean economy, and the fair economy.

On May 23, 2018, in Tokyo, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, and leaders of other Indo-Pacific area partner nations attended the IPEF inaugural ceremony.

Pillar-by-pillar Ministerial statements defining the general framework of text-based discussions were released at the first-ever in-person Ministerial meeting in September 2022.

The discussions on the four Pillar Agreements began later in December 2022, and the Pillar-II Agreement talks were mostly completed in May 2023.
