IMD warns of impending rain in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra; thunderstorms are expected in many other areas

A rainfall advisory for early Monday morning was issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday for a number of locations in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and southwest Madhya Pradesh.

In certain isolated parts of Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, the Met Department also predicted mild to moderate rainfall.

“During the next two to three hours, areas that are orange and red in color—south Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and southwest Madhya Pradesh—are expected to get light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hailstorms. “Nowcasts are updated frequently,” IMD said late on Sunday night in a post on “X.”

It said that throughout the night, “light to moderate rainfall is also likely over adjoining areas of Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh.”

IMD said in a another post on “X” that “it continues ongoing activity of light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hailstorm activity over #Maharsthra, #Rajasthan, and #MadhyaPradesh.”

“Southern Rajasthan and Gujarat state have a clean sky according to recent satellite photos. There was “intense to very intense cloud over north Madhya Maharashtra & Himachal Pradesh, and moderate cloud over Madhya Pradesh,” the statement said.

The Mumbai Regional Meteorological Centre had earlier on Sunday forecast thunderstorms and heavy rain in many Maharashtra locations.

While thunderstorms with lightning were forecast for Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, Nasik, Ahmednagar, and Pune districts, heavy rainfall was anticipated in Palghar, Dhule, and Nandurbar districts.
