Karnataka: Teacher Fired for Making Insults Towards PM Modi and Referring to the Ramayana and Mahabharata as “Imaginary”

After a commotion over her alleged anti-Hindu sentiments and disparaging remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a teacher at a private school in Mangaluru, Karnataka, was fired.

According to an NDTV story, the right-wing organization claimed that the accused teacher at St. Gerosa English HR Primary School in Mangaluru taught kids that the Ramayana and the Mahabharata were “imaginary,” with the help of BJP MLAs Vedyas Kamath and Y Bharat Shetty.

Additionally, the group said that the instructor of seventh class had informed the pupils that Lord Ram was a “mythical creature.”

The instructor is also accused of making disparaging statements against Prime Minister Modi, citing the Godhra riots of 2002 and the Bilkis Bano gang-rape case.

A grievance lodged against the instructor
Parents filed a complaint against the instructor and the school administration, demanding immediate action.

The parents complained that she was attempting to “induce feelings of hatred in the minds of children.”

According to the lawsuit, the instructor intentionally misrepresented Hinduism in order to persuade the pupils to become Christians.

According to reports, the instructor has not yet been the subject of a First Information Report (FIR).

THE SCHOOL’S REACTION
Following the commotion, the instructor was fired by the school and an inquiry into the matter was launched by the Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI).

In the meanwhile, a statement was released by St. Gerosa School, which said that in its 60-year existence, no such incidence had occurred.

According to the NDTV article, the school said, “This unfortunate incident has created a temporary mistrust between us and our move will help rebuild this trust with your cooperation and we all work together for the better future of our students.”

A BJP MLA APPEASES ACTION
After the parents of a pupil at a private school filed a police complaint against the instructor, BJP MLA Y Bharat Shetty, who represents Mangalore City North, took up the matter.

In a statement, he said that “it is not the first time that certain schools are spreading anti-Hindu sentiments.”

The MLA said that schools that forbade females from donning bindis on their foreheads or wearing bangles as a sign of respect for Hindu customs are now inciting hate against Ram Mandir.

Additionally, Shetty advised Hindu parents not to send their kids to schools with “Christian management.”

He gave examples from the past of alleged expressions of “anti-Hindu sentiments” in these kinds of establishments.

If the school administration does not take strong action against the guilty teacher, the lawmaker threatened to hold demonstrations on behalf of the BJP.

DYFI CRITICIZES THE BJP
In the meanwhile, Shetty came under fire from Muneer Katipalla, the state head of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), who said in a statement that the MLA only appears when he discovers an agenda of racial hate.

He objected to Shetty’s claim that Hindu kids need to avoid attending institutions run by Christians and questioned whether, in his time as an MLA, the legislator had ever made an effort to address issues with the district’s public universities and schools.
