KPCC Chief Sudhakaran claims, “I Have No Role In The Cheating Case”

In a cheating case involving notorious antique merchant Monson Mavunkal, KPCC head K Sudhakaran, who is under investigation by the Crime Branch, claimed on Tuesday that he had no involvement in it and accused the CPI (M)-led Left government of attempting to “scare” opposition leaders by filing charges against them.

The KPCC president said he would not appear before the investigation team on Wednesday because he had to attend a party function in Kozhikode, a day after the Kerala police’s Crime Branch requested Sudhakaran’s attendance before it in connection with the cheating case.

The senior Lok Sabha MP promised to pursue legal action against the accusation against him while speaking to the media in neighbouring Aluva.

“Either directly or indirectly, I play no part in this matter. I’ve mentioned that before, too,” Sudhakaran remarked.

When asked whether there was a political plot behind the charges against him, Sudhakaran said that there was no question in his mind.

Pinarayi Vijayan will have to answer to the law in the charges brought against him, according to Sudhakaran, who also insulted the CM.

According to the Congress veteran, there are instances against Vijayan that have been repressed through force and would be made public today or tomorrow.

The KPCC president remarked in reference to the complaints filed against him and the Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, V D Satheesan, that Vijayan is living in a fool’s paradise if he believes that the opposition leaders can be intimidated by having cases filed against them.

A notice under CrPC Section 41 A was sent to Sudhakaran on Friday, requesting his attendance before the crime branch team investigating the matter here on June 14.

Based on the claim made by complainants who had lost money in the cheating case that they had given money to Mavunkal in Sudhakaran’s presence, the crime branch decided to question the KPCC president.

The agency had already presented a new report to the court at this location, accusing Sudhakaran of the charges.

Two years ago, when the accusations were made against Sudhakaran, he refuted them.

As pictures of Sudhakaran and Mavunkal started to surface, the situation had escalated into a political storm.

Mavunkal claimed to be a licenced cosmetologist, thus Sudhakaran stated he went to his house for treatment.

Mavunkal is accused of giving individuals false information about himself and his company in order to solicit money from them. Mavunkal has appeared in several photos with high-ranking state officials, including bureaucrats and police personnel.

Mavunkal, a resident of Cherthala who claims to own valuable antiquities, was detained by the Crime Branch in September 2021.

He is accused of defrauding multiple individuals out of Rs 10 crore.

Three days ago, the CPI(M)-led LDF government launched a vigilance investigation against Satheesan, a member of Sudhakaran’s party and the leader of the opposition in the State Assembly. Now, the Crime Branch has moved against Sudhakaran.

In that instance, a project in Satheesan’s district received foreign funding from overseas, reportedly in violation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).
