L-G Saxena authorizes a 30% expansion in positions within Delhi Judicial Services

Lt Governor V K Saxena has approved the increase in selection grade jobs in Delhi Judicial Services from the current 25 to 35 percent, and super time scale positions from the current 10 to 15 percent, Raj Niwas officials said on Tuesday.

Effective January 1, 2020, the selection grade posts will have an increase from the current 25 to 35 percent, and the super time scale postings will have a rise from 10 to 15 percent.

An official stated, “Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has approved the implementation of changes in the Delhi Higher Judicial Service Rules Schedule, raising the positions of District Judge (Selection Grade) and District Judge (Super Time Scale) to 35 and 15% of the cadre strength, respectively.

If the plan is approved, there will be 61 positions in the super time scale and 142 posts in the selection grade. There are 405 cadre members in the Delhi higher judiciary.

Under Rule 4 (1) of the Delhi Higher Judicial Service Rules, 1970, the legal department of the Delhi government had submitted the request for a change to the Schedule.

In May of last year, the Supreme Court issued a directive increasing the number of district judges (selection grade) to 35 percent of the cadre strength from the current 25 percent and increasing the number of district judges (super time scale) from the current 10 percent to 15 percent with effect from January 1, 2020.
