Life Sentence for Man in 49-Year-Old Murder Case
An 80-year-old man was given a life sentence in jail by a court in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, in connection with a murder case that was reported almost 50 years ago, a government attorney said on Friday. It further assessed Mahendra Singh, the guilty party, a punishment of Rs 20,000.
Additional district government lawyer Narayan Saxena said on Friday that Meera Devi, a local, had submitted a complaint accusing Mahendra Singh of killing her mother on September 14, 1974. Narkhi was a part of the Agra district at the time of the tragedy. Later, the case was moved to the Firozabad court.
Said Saxena On Thursday, extra District and Sessions Judge Jitendra Gupta sentenced Mahendra to life in prison and said that the defendant would have to serve an extra year in prison if the fine was not paid.
