Lok Sabha Election Results Are Expected After March 9; First, the ECI Will Evaluate the Security Situation in J&K

The top brass of the Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to declare the date of the Lok Sabha elections after March 9 since they are traveling to the states for final inspections. It is anticipated that the general elections for India’s 18th Lok Sabha would be held in April and May.

As part of the ongoing preparations for the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 and concurrent Assembly polls in some states, a group of ECI officials is now making consecutive trips to states.

According to reports, on March 8 and 9, ECI representatives are meeting with government officials to inquire about the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the availability of soldiers.

On March 12–13, they will also go to Jammu & Kashmir to evaluate the ground situation and determine if Assembly elections in the UT can be held concurrently with Lok Sabha elections. According to insiders, “everything will depend on the availability of forces.”

Poll body officials are scheduled to visit many states, which suggests that the 2024 election schedule may resemble the 2019 one.

The Lok Sabha elections for 2019 were declared on March 10. Seven waves of polling were conducted between April 11 and May 19, and on May 23, ballots were counted.
