Man Arrested for Stolen Silver Idols from Temple in Maha

According to authorities, a 38-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Raigad district was detained for allegedly stealing silver statues from a temple to pay off a debt he was having trouble repaying.

According to a police statement, Mahesh Nandkumar Chaynakhwa was detained on Thursday in relation to the theft that occurred at the Khandoba temple in Theronda village in Alibag taluka on May 18.

A local man named Chaynakhwa borrowed Rs 1.4 lakh from other people for his wedding and his company, but he was unable to pay them back. He then allegedly took a few silver idols from the temple with the intention of selling them for Rs. 1.6 lakh. All of the idols were found in Chaynakhwa by the police, it was said.

The Revdanda police station has recently been involved in a second incident of this kind. A few silver plates were earlier taken from the temple wall in Chaul village, and the matter has gone unsolved.
