In the presence of Union Minister Nityananda Rai and Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Manipur on Sunday participated in the worldwide inauguration of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme.

The Rs 13,000 crore PM Vishwakarma Yojana (program) for traditional artisans and craftsmen was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.

Speaking at a gathering, Rai said that the prime minister has always prioritized the development of the Northeastern states.

According to the Union minister of state for home, “the scheme has been launched covering 18 traditional crafts, including carpentry, boat building, blacksmithing, weaving, etc.” It will “facilitate the development of small-scale craftsmen across the country, who will assist in achieving the goal of self-reliance.”

Chief Minister Biren Singh said, “The Union government would completely support the project. It is an important step toward empowering our talented craftsmen and craftspeople. The Vishwakarmas will get free registration under the plan.

In a birthday greeting to PM Modi, Singh said, “The scheme will provide an opportunity to the talented artisans to showcase their skills and help in the country’s economic growth.”

The Vishwakarma plan aims to improve the availability and quality of goods and services provided by traditional craftsmen and artisans.

The program provides Rs. 1 lakh (first tranche for 18 months of repayment) and Rs. 2 lakh (second tranche for 30 months of repayment) in collateral-free company development loans.
