Medical negligence: The deceased’s relatives want the allegations against the accused doctor to be revised

Gokul Chand Aneja, the complainant, has insisted that the names of two other physicians be included in the FIR after the arrest of a private hospital doctor last week on charges of fraud and cheating.

Aneja said at a news conference held here that the names of Drs. Sarabdeep Singh and Sita Sharma should be included in the FIT in addition to Dr. Parveen Devgan. He claimed that after his wife, advocate Sunita Aneja, had a complete laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) performed by Dr. Devgan, she passed away as a result of medical staff and hospital malpractice.

Aneja said that because the other two physicians continued the procedure while knowing the operating surgeon was competent, they were equally at fault. Following Aneja’s allegation, Dr. Devgan’s registration was suspended for six months by the Punjab Medical Council.

Aneja said that the surgeon had endangered several lives by carrying out surgery even when his license was suspended. Aneja said that since the hospital had disobeyed the directives, he had also written to the Punjab Medical Council asking that it be sealed.

Aneja also insisted that higher-ranking authorities in the police and Health Department investigate how severe the physicians’ offenses were. According to him, physicians need to be charged under IPC Sections 304 and 120B.

A medical board established by the Health Department had discovered that the attendance records related to the case had been altered and falsified, therefore the police had already charged Dr. Devgan with fraud and deception.
