Meeting with Rajasthan’s chief minister to discuss preparations for Cyclone Biparjoy

In order to evaluate the preparations taken to cope with the effects of the very strong cyclone Biparjoy, which is predicted to make landfall on the coast of adjacent Gujarat on Thursday, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot met with authorities on Wednesday evening.

On June 16 and 17, under the impact of the cyclone, there is a good chance that Rajasthan’s Jodhpur and Udaipur divisions would see significant rainfall. On June 16, strong winds with a speed of 60 to 70 kilometres per hour are anticipated in the nearby cities of Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jalore, and Jodhpur; the next day, they are anticipated in Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Ajmer.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, “the chief minister directed all concerned departments to be prepared for rescue and relief operations.” Gehlot urged all district collectors and allied agencies to run 24-hour cyclone and flood control centres, saying that the district administration should be ready for the rescue and relief of the ordinary people.

“Instructions have been issued to deploy eight companies of SDRF in Jaipur, Kota, Bharatpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur, and Bikaner and one company of NDRF in Kishangarh and Ajmer,” the announcement said.

On June 16, very heavy rains were predicted for Barmer and Jalore, very heavy rains for Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Pali, and Sirohi, and heavy rains for Bikaner, Udaipur, and Rajsamand.

On June 17, Barmer, Jalore, Pali, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Sirohi, Rajsamand, Churu, Sikar, Jaipur, Tonk, Bundi, Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur, and Banswara are all likely to see significant rainfall.
