Minister: The Center Does Not Prejudice States Led by Parties Other Than the Bhp in Allocating Disaster Relief Funds

On Tuesday, Nityanand Rai, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, refuted claims that the central government was withholding disaster relief funding from non-BJP-ruled states.

In response to a query on flood aid for Tamil Nadu, Rai rejected claims that the states that do not have the BJP in power were treated unfairly when it came to the distribution of funding for disaster assistance.

The prime minister refuted the claim that Tamil Nadu was being treated unfairly, saying, “In reality, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very sensitive to the need of the state governments during any natural disaster and the central government provides all kinds of help during any crisis.”

Additionally, he said that the Tamil Nadu government still has Rs. 2013 crore under the SDRF, which it is free to use for flood assistance.

According to him, interministerial central teams are being sent out under the current administration even in advance of a request coming from the state government.

Rai said that the State Disaster Response Force received funding of Rs 33581 crore between 2010 and 2015. Between 2015 and 2020, the sum increased to Rs 61220 crore, and between 2022 and 2026, it increased to Rs 138122 crore, a 282 percent rise.

Union Minister Nityanand Rai said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that the central government has increased funding to the National Disaster Response Fund by Rs 198173 crore between 2014 and 24. This amount is three times more than what was paid in the preceding ten years.

According to the minister of state for home affairs, the federal government provided the NDRF with increased funding of Rs 65346 crore between 2004 and 2014, and Rs 198173 crore between 2014 and 2014—a threefold increase over the previous period.

According to Rai, the Modi administration is pursuing a comprehensive plan for disaster mitigation, with the goal of guaranteeing that there are no property or human deaths.
