New Generation Akash Missile Made in India Completes Successful Flight Test in Odisha

Balasore (Odisha): From the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha, India successfully tested the next-generation AKASH missile in flight on Friday, according to authorities.
DRDO carried out the flying test at an extremely low altitude against a fast-moving unmanned aerial target. They claimed that the weapon system successfully intercepted and destroyed the target during the flying test.

“It has validated the functioning of the complete weapon system consisting of the missile with indigenously developed Radio Frequency Seeker, Launcher, Multi-Function Radar and Command, Control & Communication system” , according to authorities.

The data collected by many radars, telemetry, and electro-optical tracking systems used by ITR, Chandipur, was also used to verify the system’s performance.

Senior officials from Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Indian Air Force (IAF), and DRDO saw the flying test.

Modern missile systems like the AKASH-NG system can intercept swift and agile aircraft threats. The user trials are now possible because of the successful flying test.

Rajnath Singh, the minister of defence, has praised the industry, PSUs, the IAF, and the DRDO for the successful flight test. According to him, the system’s successful development would improve the nation’s air defense capabilities even further.

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat also complimented the teams engaged with the successful flight test of AKASH-NG.
