On September 17, Assam will plant one million saplings. Himanta

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, said on Wednesday that one crore seedlings of commercial trees will be planted in the state’s forests on September 17 over the course of three hours.

The CM introduced the “Amrit Briksha Andolan” campaign’s online page, mobile app, and theme song during a local event.

For “ease of doing business” in the industry, a website for registration of the wood-based industry was also established on Wednesday.

Assam’s beauty would be enhanced by this campaign, which will also fight climate change by expanding forest cover and give people more power via a tree-based economy, according to Sarma, who spoke at the event.

In an effort to break records, self-help organizations, frontline workers, educational institutions, and government employees will team up on September 17 to plant one crore commercially viable seedlings in under three hours.

The state government plans to start growing six crore seedlings in government nurseries the next year, according to Environment and Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary.

“We want the people to grow commercially viable trees in their lands so that forests are not destroyed for wood-based industries,” he said.

According to Patowary, government nurseries are growing commercial trees like white sandals, which will be distributed free to the public.
