Only sterilised prohibited dogs may be registered with Panchkula MC

The Municipal Corporation is considering registering canines of certain vicious dog breeds, such as rottweilers and pitbulls, only if they have undergone sterilization, more than a year and a half after outlawing the breeding of these dogs.

The decision, according to officials, was made in an effort to manage the number of these vicious canine breeds.

In October 2022, the MC outlawed the breeding and domestication of these vicious canines, and owners were warned to register their animals or risk paying a steep punishment. Nevertheless, the owners of these dogs have neglected to register them and still disobey MC’s instructions.

Recently, the MC released guidelines for pet registration. In the event that dogs were seen wandering the streets unrestrained, the MC Commissioner had warned that teams may take control of the animals.

Residents registered 128 pet dogs with the local body in fiscal 2023–24, according to data obtained from the MC. Physical applications are not accepted, according to MC authorities. According to an official, “the Saral Haryana website is the platform through which applications for pet registration are accepted.”

Pet owners who fail to register their pets within a month will face disciplinary action from the Panchkula Municipal Corporation (MC), according to Commissioner Sachin Gupta. “We are considering issuing directions that only sterilised dogs of ferocious breeds will be registered by the Panchkula Municipal Corporation in an effort to deter people from breeding the banned dog breeds,” he said.
