Raghav Chadha on the BJP’s efforts to silence him: “Breach of Privilege” Complaints Against Him

Raghav Chadha, an AAP Rajya Sabha member, blasted the BJP on Thursday for accusing him of falsifying the signatures of five MPs in a motion pertaining to the Delhi services bill and said that they were attempting to “suppress” his voice.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said he would approach the panel and court on the issue in his initial response after Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar referred complaints of four MPs to the privileges committee to examine and investigate the matter after they claimed Chadha had proposed their names for the formation of a select committee without their consent in violation of the rules.

Additionally, he said at a press conference that it was falsely propagated that Rajya Sabha Select Committee nominees need both signatures and written permission. In order to get revenge on the BJP Lok Sabha members who made the bogus accusation of forgery against me, Chadha added, “I will go before the Committee of Privileges and a court of law.”

He said that if the Committee of Privileges initiates actions against someone, they should not make public pronouncements. “The Committee of Privileges does not make public announcements when it initiates a case against someone. But I had to speak out because I felt compelled to. However, I will not criticize the Committee of Privileges or the Honorable Chair, the AAP leader said.

“I want the BJP to display the documents that allegedly include falsified signatures. Forgery and phony signatures are not included in the Parliamentary Bulletin about allegations made against me, according to Chadha, who also claimed that the BJP was “trying to muzzle his voice.”

According to a Rajya Sabha bulletin, MPs Sasmit Patra, S Phangnon Konyak, M. Thambidurai, and Narhari Amin complained to the chairman that Chadha had violated their privilege by, among other things, using their names in a motion on August 7 without their permission and in violation of the rules of procedure and conduct of business.

The names of the four MPs were included in Chadha’s proposal to form a select committee to examine the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
