SC refuses Kavitha’s bail

BRS leader K Kavitha suffered a defeat when the Supreme Court on Friday denied her bail in the money laundering case involving the purported Delhi excise policy scandal. The Enforcement Directorate had detained Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the same case the day before.

Kavitha was called to appear before the trial court by a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna, MM Sundresh, and Bela M. Trivedi. They said that this court is bound by procedure and cannot circumvent it. Give notice. Within six weeks, the counteraffidavit must be submitted. In six weeks, assuming there is a rejoinder,. The bench said that the petitioner “may move the trial court or invoke any other remedy for grant of bail,” noting that the petitioner retains all available defenses and pleads. According to the bench, the ED has been notified of Kavitha’s appeal contesting the terms of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), and the court is awaiting its answer. The bench informed senior counsel Kapil Sibal, who was representing Kavitha, that “the petition challenging the provisions (of PMLA) will come up with the pending matters.”
