On August 29, Kerala’s schools and institutions were closed in observance of the Onam holiday. Kerala observes Onam, an important and widely observed festival, for 10 days, however educational institutions are not closed the whole time. Onam, Raksha Bandhan, and Sree Narayana Guru Jayanti were on the same weekend this year, giving some schools and colleges an extra day off.

In Kerala, it’s expected that all schools, universities, and banks would be closed tomorrow as well as the next two days. Onam, Raksha Bandhan, and Sree Narayana Guru Jayanti all fall on the same weekend this year, which benefits a lot of educational institutions.

On August 27, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan opened the state-wide Onam festivities at the Nishagandhi open-air amphitheater. Numerous folk art performances, fusion music concerts, and other events are being held around the state at various locations.

Onam has also been designated as a local holiday in several schools by the Chennai government in Tamil Nadu. According to DT Next, M Aruna, IAS, the district collector for Chennai, has issued a formal notification about the matter. All crucial services will still be available, however.

In order to make up for the holiday, September 2 (Saturday) will also be a working day. In addition to Chennai, local holidays have also been declared in Tiruppur, Coimbatore, and Kanniyakumari.

A few schools around the nation will also be closed on Raksha Bandhan for one day. The holy days of Raksha Bandhan will be observed this year on August 30 and August 31. It is a time to honor the unique relationship that siblings have. Given that the major event is being observed across two days this year, there is a lot of uncertainty over the most auspicious time to tie a Rakhi.

In light of this, some schools have announced a vacation for August 30, while others have done so for August 31, according to sources. It is suggested that both parents and children double-check the Raksha Bandhan holiday with their individual schools. Additionally, according to reports, all schools in Bihar will be closed on August 31 in observance of Raksha Bandhan.
