Supreme Court orders SBI to provide all election bond information, including serial numbers, by March 21

The State Bank of India (SBI) was ordered by the Supreme Court on Monday to provide all information pertaining to the electoral bonds, including serial numbers, which let people and businesses to donate money to political parties.

The Supreme Court mandated that Chairman SBI submit an affidavit by Thursday at 5 p.m., after disclosing all bond information, according to Live Law.

The ruling made it quite clear that all information must be released.Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud urged, “Don’t be selective,” making sure that nothing had been censored.

CJI Chandrachud said, “We want all information related to the electoral bonds to be disclosed which is in your possession,” during a petition hearing challenging the SBI’s “incomplete data” about the contributions given to political parties via electoral bonds.

Additionally, it has requested that the Election Commission post the information provided by the SBI on its website.

The program was earlier overturned by the highest court, which also ordered the bank to disclose all information on donations made over the previous five years.

Following the bank’s submission of the information, the Supreme Court criticized the SBI for failing to provide electoral bond numbers and for not abiding by its earlier ruling. The Supreme Court ruled unequivocally that the lender “must disclose” the electoral bond number, which connects contributors and beneficiaries.

A five-judge court noted that the electoral bond information provided by SBI was lacking and sent a notice to the bank to clarify the error. The case was scheduled for hearing on March 18.

It seems that the SBI has a “you tell us what to disclose, we will disclose” mentality. It doesn’t seem fair. The CJI said today that “all details” refers to all possible facts.
