The Bengal Governor establishes a peace committee to preserve harmony and social integration

According to reports, Governor C V Ananda Bose established a committee on Wednesday in response to the violence that occurred during the West Bengal panchayat elections. The group’s primary responsibility is to look at ways to preserve the state’s social cohesion and tranquility.

According to them, Subhro Kamal Mukherjee, a former chief justice of the Calcutta High Court, would lead the body known as the “Peace and Harmony committee.” “The committee will discuss the situation as it is and work to safeguard social cohesion, peace, and harmony in the state. Soon, the other committee members would be appointed, an official informed PTI.

He said that Justice Mukherjee has also been appointed by the governor as the next vice chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University. Over the last month, there have been a number of fatalities and several injuries related to poll violence across the state.

On July 8, about 74,000 seats in zilla parishads, panchayat samitis, and gram panchayats will be up for election in the state’s three-tier panchayat elections, which are open to around 5.67 crore voters.

Before traveling to Dinhata in the Cooch Behar district, Bose, who has referred to himself as a “ground zero governor,” visited the violently affected districts of Bhangar and Canning in the South 24 Parganas district. Additionally, he went to Basanti in the North 24 Parganas area.
