The Haryana DGP reminds officials of their responsibility to the public

Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur on Tuesday urged the police officers to promptly address public complaints and prioritize objective investigations after Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij ordered the suspension of 372 Investigating Officers (IOs) due to failure to resolve the long-pending cases even after a year.

In Panchkula, Kapur presided over a meeting of top police officials and encouraged them to be proactive in resolving complaints made to police stations. He instructed the cops to phone random complainants to find out the sources of their unhappiness.

The DGP said that these calls might be used to rate police stations and individual officers in order to evaluate their performance.

Kapur stressed the need for senior officers to analyze calls made via the feedback cell in an attempt to improve the feedback process, paying particular attention to people who were unhappy with police operations.

He advised them to find out the causes of the unhappiness and use call recording to establish transparent work procedures.

There was discussion of opening daycare centers for the children of female police officers. It is suggested that these nurseries be installed inside police stations for women and along police lines.

According to Panchkula Police Commissioner Sibas Kaviraj, an IIT Madras-led pilot project would improve road safety in Panchkula. A thorough evaluation of the elements affecting traffic safety will be part of the study.

Kapur addressed the problem of loud DJ systems on trucks and trolleys during weddings and festivals, suggesting that the registration of such vehicles may be canceled. According to the rules, he stated, action will also be taken against DJ owners.

The DGP suggested stationing female police officers close to colleges and institutions so they may interact with female students and persuade them to report any harassment they may have experienced.

According to him, a list of drug purchasers and vendors would be available by November 30.

Kapur stressed the need of sensitively treating complaints at mahila police stations and having cordial communications with complainants. He reaffirmed the goal of the mahila police stations, which is to provide women easy access to legal services in one location.
