The Kerala Latin Catholic Association is incensed about the death of another fisherman in Muthalapozhi

The Kerala Latin Catholic Association (KLCA) has taken a strong stance against the relevant authorities for their failure to take action to guarantee the security of the fishermen leaving Muthalapozhi harbor for the sea.

The indignation follows the death of another fisherman, John of Pudukurichi, from an overturned fishing boat close to the harbor. At Muthalapozhi, he is the 76th individual to pass away.

The KLCA cited a research conducted for the state government by the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) which concluded that the four villages in the Anchuthengu region’s coastline erosion were caused by the building of gyrone embankments at the harbor. Similarly, the organization reported that a progressive increase in land area was discovered in the region between Perumathura and Muthalapozhi as a result of material from the sea being deposited there.

According to the KLCA, artificial harbors constructed with gyrones, such as Muthalapozhi, need regular dredging in addition to ongoing maintenance. The statement said, “These works have not been carried out regularly as promised.”

“The Church had protested about the government’ indolent attitude in carrying out the promised remedies the previous time an event of this kind resulted in death. But the Church officials had a ticket. Subsequently, during the post-agitation talks, the state administration declared plans to ensure Muthalapozhi’s safety. Not one of the promises came true. Additionally, there has been no payment, according to the KLCA.

Had the assurances been fulfilled, the most recent mishap would have never happened. The KLCA said that the deceased should bear the consequences of their failure to complete the procedure.
