The Kolhapur disease control body team is investigating a rabies fatality

Kolhapur: On Wednesday, senior investigators from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), in New Delhi, started looking into the case of the rabies-stricken lady who passed away on March 4.
The researchers, which included Dr. Hanul Thakural of the Centre for One Health and Dr. Sauntappanna Balasubramaniam of the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS), arrived in Pune by plane and arrived in Kolhapur late on Tuesday night.

After conducting the study until Friday morning, the researchers will submit a report to the government.
They were escorted by Zilla Parishad (ZP) health authorities and Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) health department personnel. The next morning, the team met with S. S. More, the dean, and Shishir Mirgunde, the medical superintendent at Chhatrapati Pramilatai Raje Hospital (CPR), where the dead were receiving treatment. To make sure she had received the shots on time, they looked inside the anti-rabies vaccination (ARV) room.
In addition, the investigators found that the deceased had received three of the five ARV dosages from a CPR facility; they are now looking into whether the remaining two were obtained from a private facility.
When TOI went into contact with the researchers, they told me they wouldn’t talk to the media until the study was over.
Under the condition of anonymity, a ZP health official said, “The NCDC had taken the woman’s death seriously.” The whole team will visit all hospitals in order to find out where the deceased received her medical care and to meet her family. Her case will be examined by the specialists until March 22.
