The Puducherry government will conduct an entrance exam this year for nursing college admissions

The BSc Nursing Entrance Exams are being prepared for by the Puducherry Health Department. This year, the common admission exam will be administered. The government will arrange these tests in accordance with the recommendations made by the Indian Nursing Council.

In response to the announcement made on June 8, 2023, by the Secretary of the Indian Nursing Council in New Delhi, a senior official was quoted as saying, “Referring to the notification issued on June 8, 2023, by the Secretary of the Indian Nursing Council in New Delhi, the Health Department will conduct a common entrance exam for hopeful students seeking admission to the BSc (Nursing) course for the academic year 2023–24. This examination will include all colleges, including those that come under the purview of the Union Territory of Puducherry, whether they are public, private, or deemed institutions.

The Puducherry territory government asked the Indian Nursing Council (INC) in April to continue the old procedure and permit nursing admissions for the academic year 2023–24 based on Class 12 grades. On June 8, the INC, in response to the Puducherry Health Department, suggested that admittance for students should be determined by the results of a qualifying test.

According to the Puducherry Health Department, students will be evaluated based on the material studied in Class 11 and Class 12 in the next common entrance exam for BSc Nursing admissions. The test covers the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, and Nursing Aptitude. Each subject is worth 20 marks. In due order, the government is anticipated to make the test date, registration requirements, and other pertinent information public.

There are a total of 13 nursing colleges in the Union Territory (UT) of Puducherry, providing 970 spaces for prospective students. One of these universities, the Mother Theresa Post Graduate Research Institute of Health Sciences, has ties to the public sector. Eight private nursing institutions and four deemed universities make up the remaining colleges. While the bulk of seats are split among private institutions and recognized universities, the Mother Theresa Institute alone offers around 80 places.

For applicants looking to enroll in nursing schools, the Indian Nursing Council has emphasized the significance of passing the prerequisite entrance test. It has been emphasized that those who are accepted without taking this test may have difficulties with the reciprocal registration procedure. The process that nurses go through when switching from one State Nursing Registration Council to another is referred to as reciprocal registration. Candidates must adhere to the correct procedure and take the qualifying entrance test in order to prevent future issues.
