To prepare for the UPSC, this Rajasthani woman quit her job at NASA

One of the most difficult tests in the nation is for the Indian Police Service, or IPS. Preliminary, major, and personality exams are all parts of the complete exam that candidates must take. Many people succeed in overcoming this obstacle and realizing their goal of becoming an IPS officer. Anukriti Sharma is one contestant in this group. In the 2014 National Eligibility Test for Junior Research Fellowships, Anukriti placed 23rd overall. What’s astonishing is that Anukriti chose to pursue her passion of becoming an IPS officer over a lucrative position with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Let’s look at Anukriti’s narrative of achievement.

Anukriti is from the Rajasthani city of Ajmer. While her mother was a teacher, her father worked for the 20 Point Programme. The Indo-Bharat International School in Jaipur is where she finished her education. At the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Kolkata, she later earned a Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery degree (BSMS). When she was a college student, she met Varanasi-native Vaibhav Mishra. They became buddies in 2012. They fell in love quickly. Both of them were chosen to pursue PhD programs at Rice University in Houston, Texas. Vaibhav wanted to go to America with Anukriti, but it was suggested that they wait until they were married. In 2013, they both got married.

Anukriti said, “We got jobs while pursuing our PhD degrees in the USA,” in an interview with a site. We had to do volcanological study and made more than Rs 2 lakh every month. They opted to go back to India because, according to Anukriti, she wanted to serve the country. She and her spouse began studying for the civil service test at her in-laws’ home. Vaibhav and Anukriti assisted one another at this period in every manner they could for the tests. They took the test for the first time in 2015, however they failed the preliminary round. “Vaibhav remained a pillar of support for me during this difficult time,” Anukriti told the site. The second time, she made it to the interview stage but was once again disqualified.

Anukriti was chosen by the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) after successfully passing the test on her fourth try with a 355th rank. In 2020, she took the UPSC a fifth time and succeeded, becoming an IPS officer. She is now employed at Bulandshahr as an assistant superintendent of police. Vaibhav, her spouse, is a professor at one of Delhi’s coaching facilities. Anukriti attributes her achievement in the UPSC test to her husband and parents.
