Two sector officials are being prosecuted for incompetence
The Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) of Banga gave notices to two sector officers from Banga and Nawanshahr for missing the scheduled May 4 and 5 EVM training and polling party rehearsal. Allegations have been made that the authorities neglected to notify them of their absence from work on both days.
Notably, both of them—who work for the department as JE and SDO—have received a show-cause notice. They had served as sector officials during the last elections as well.
The Assistant Returning Officer has sent a letter claiming that neither of them attended any of the crucial and required trainings.
To guarantee a smooth election process, polling parties must practice and get EVM training. However, missing both trainings has shown reckless behavior and goes against the Election Commission of India’s directives, the letter said.
On May 6, both officials received a request for a written response regarding this. “Actions under the Representation of the People Act 1950 and Representation of the People Act 1951 will be taken if you do not respond. The letter further said that Ropar, the returning officer, would be notified about this for future action.
