When it rains in Tennessee, the army steps in to help rescue stuck rail passengers in Srivaikuntam

An official said on Tuesday that rescue operations for the about 800 passengers who were stuck at Srivaikuntam in southern Tamil Nadu are “going on” and would be finished as soon as feasible.

In other places, the Army helped civilians evacuate from regions affected by flooding and gave them medical attention.

Even though there hasn’t been much rainfall in much of southern Tamil Nadu, there is still a lot of flooding, which makes life as usual difficult.

The NDRF, Air Force, railway, and local authorities are coordinating the rescue efforts, according to a railway official here.

The travelers, who had been stuck since Monday morning, slept the night in train cars at the Srivaikuntam railway station in the district of Thoothukudi.

The first 300 were put up at a local school, while the remaining people were billeted at the Srivaikuntam railway station.

Over 100 people, including 54 women, a pregnant woman, and 19 children, were rescued on Monday night with the help of the military near Thoothukudi.
