A Mumbai cricketer passes away after being struck by a stray ball at a nearby game

in Monday afternoon, during a cricket match in Mumbai, a 52-year-old man was struck in the head and later passed away. An errant ball from another match being played at the Dadar Parsi Colony Sporting Club stadium hit and killed Jayesh Sawala, who was fielding during the match at Dadkar Maidan in Matunga.

An eyewitness said that Sawala was struck behind his ears on his head and collapsed to the ground. According to an eyewitness cited by the Times of India, “He fell to the ground and rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.”

According to the article, both games were being played for the Kutchhi Visa Oswal Vikas Legend Cup, a T20 competition for players 50 years of age and above. Despite the autopsy being requested, police reported the death as accidental, and foul play was ruled out.

According to Hindustan Times, Sawala was a Bhayandar-based businessman. “We had two matches on Monday afternoon, one at Dadar Union and the second at Dadar Parsee Colony pitch,” said an additional eyewitness who was speaking with the national newspaper. Savla was in position when the batter in the DPC game struck a pull shot as he was representing Gala Rocks versus Master Blaster. The precise spot on his head where Australia’s Phil Hughes was struck and ultimately died was struck by the ball.

The next day, the morning’s net sessions at the Matunga maidan were canceled due to the event. While there have been injuries in the past, it is not uncommon for two or more matches to be played on the same field with neighboring pitches in Mumbai Maidans. However, this may be the first time that a wayward ball has killed someone.
