Against WI, Glenn Maxwell scores 120* in the second T20I to tie Rohit Sharma’s record of five T20I centuries

Second Twenty20 International between Australia and the West Indies: Glenn Maxwell is almost unstoppable when he gets going, and this was evident when he took the bat in the second Twenty20 International against the Indies.

On Sunday, February 11, Maxwell, batting first at the Adelaide Oval, amassed an incredible century and an undefeated 120 runs in 55 balls to help Australia achieve a mammoth total of 241/4 in their 20 overs.

After hitting 12 fours and 8 sixes, Maxwell tied Rohit Sharma’s record of five T20I hundreds with this explosive effort.

After three T20I matches, Maxwell’s scoring for the Australians reached double digits for the second time.

In his 100th T20I, which was played in Guwahati in November of last year, he also made a century against India, matching Rohit’s previous record.

But with his fifth century, which he struck in the third Twenty20 International match against Afghanistan in Bengaluru earlier this year, the Indian skipper advanced.

After he and Tim David stitched together an amazing partnership of 95 runs in 39 deliveries for the fifth wicket, with the latter striking 31 runs in 14 balls, Maxwell’s effort enabled the hosts to rally from 64/3.

Before David joined him, he had already formed an 82-run partnership with Marcus Stoinis (16) and reached his half-century in only 25 balls.

Rohit and Maxwell are closely followed by Suryakumar Yadav, who has four hundreds in 60 T20I appearances, on the list of players with the most hundreds.

Nevertheless, three other hitters have three T20I hundreds under their belts.

Five Glenn Maxwell (AUS)

Five Rohit Sharma (IND)

Yadav Suryakumar (IND) – 4

Davizi Sabawoon (CZK-R – 3)

NZ’s Colin Munro – 3

Pakistan’s Babar Azam: 3

In 102 Twenty20 International appearances for Australia, the 35-year-old Maxwell has amassed 2405 runs at an average of 30.83 and a striking average of 155.26.

In addition to his five hundreds, he has amassed ten fifties throughout his T20I career so far.

With a strike rate of 139.97 and an average of 31.79, Rohit Sharma amassed his five hundreds in 151 games.

In addition, Maxwell joined David Warner and Aaron Finch as the only other Australian players to reach the 9,500-run threshold in Twenty20 cricket.

Australia leads the three-match series 1-0 after winning the first game in Hobart by an innings, therefore winning this game is essential for the West Indies to recover.
