Annu Rani, HS Prannoy, and archer Dhiraj Bommadevara’s requests to train overseas are approved by the ministry

At a recent meeting, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ (MYAS) Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) approved the training abroad proposals of several athletes, including javelin thrower Annu Rani, archer Dhiraj Bommadevara, shuttlers HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth, and judoka Tulika Maan.

Asian Games silver medallist Dhiraj Bommadevara and his coach Sonam Tshering Bhutia will travel to South Korea’s Kim Archery School later this month, while gold medallist Annu Rani, a javelin thrower, will return to Germany’s Leichtathletik Gemeinschaft Offenburg Center to train under foreign coach Werner Daniels.

The Sports Ministry said in a statement on Thursday that the Greco-Roman wrestler Sunil Kumar’s request for a 68-day training camp in Budapest, Hungary, had also been accepted. He will be training there in order to prepare for the Paris Olympic Qualifiers next year.

In addition, judokas Yash Ghangas, Asmita Dey, Himanshi Tokas, Shraddha Chopade, Tulika Maan, and Vijay Kumar Yadav, together with their coach Yashpal Solanki, will go to Tokyo, Japan, for a combination of training and competition.

The MYAS will pay for Annu Rani’s javelin coach Werner Daniels’ coaching fee in addition to her airfare, visa, boarding/lodging expenses, training costs, and Out of Pocket Allowance (OPA) under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) financing.

Proposals from shuttlers HS Prannoy for financial support to support the Strength and Conditioning and Psychology program services until the Paris Olympics and from Srikanth Kidambi for the appointment of Strength and Conditioning Trainer Varun Kumar for the upcoming China Masters were also approved during the MOC meeting.
