Chandigarh eves lose their national championship match 2-0 against Punjab

In the 28th Senior Women’s National Football Championship final round at the AIFF National Centre of Excellence in Kolkata, Punjab defeated Chandigarh 2-0 to earn their first points. This was Chandigarh’s third straight loss in the current competition.

Punjab defeated Chandigarh with two goals in a row just after the quarter-hour mark. In the seventeenth minute, Tejibala Devi opened the score for Punjab after laying off a ball from Nisha. A minute later, Nisha was there to tap in after Chandigarh goalie Kajal mishandled a strike from Bandana’s free kick.

Despite their best efforts, the Chandigarh Eagles were unable to make a comeback. The local team had lost 0-1 to Delhi and 0-3 to Railways in their previous games.

Meanwhile, there was still no movement in the match between Railways and Tamil Nadu. The result was a 2-2 tie. A pair of goals by Railways late in the game allowed them to stay in the hunt for first place in Group A, even though Tamil Nadu seemed to be taking a three-point lead.

The striker Sandhiya Ranganathan gave the reigning champions a fantastic start when he grabbed a rebound after Priyadharshini S’s shot, and then in the sixth minute he scored an incredible goal from close range. When Sandhiya extended their advantage in the 77th minute, it seemed as if Tamil Nadu had the three points secured. Nevertheless, the Railways squad pulled together and scored a comeback in the eighty-eighth minute. Anju Tamang and Kamala worked a brief corner out wide before Anju Tamang scored a cross in the far post. After patiently waiting his turn, defender Jabamani Tudu was able to leap higher and head the ball past the goal line.

Two minutes later, Railways stole a point from the jaws of loss by taking advantage of some miscommunication inside the Tamil Nadu box. Sowmiya Narayanasamy, the goalie for Tamil Nadu, stopped Kamala Devi’s shot. Tamang, the stoker, had the ball fall in front of him, but his attempt was also stopped. Mamta was given the opportunity and she scored it after seeing an open goal with clarity. Bengal won their second match at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan, defeating Delhi 2-0.

Lads from Haryana win

In the meantime, Haryana had to battle to win the Swami Vivekananda U20 Men’s National Football Championship, defeating Gujarat 2-1. Haryana won for the second time in a row.

In the 49th minute, Haryana’s Pawan, a defender, gave his team the lead after the first half ended goalless. He curled a free kick from the right side of the opponent’s box, catching Gujarat goalkeeper Taksh Patel off guard. However, Gujarat equalized in the 80th minute when opportunistic attacker Manashveersingh B Khaitan tapped the ball over the goal line after a defensive error by a Haryana defender.

Gujarat blew a penalty that was given to them, which gave them a great chance to take the lead. When Stenis Touthang attempted to take the shot, he stumbled and the ball went over the crossbar. Gujarat paid a heavy price for it. Veer Gahlaut scored on a counterattack in the ninetieth minute to give Haryana the victory. Kerala defeated Andhra Pradesh six games to one in the second encounter.
