Former Indian opener on the wicketkeeper debate for the ODI World Cup: “Ishan Kishan’s Place is Not Dependent on His Performances”

Aakash Chopra, a former Indian opener, speculates that Ishan Kishan’s place on India’s World Cup roster may be in doubt. Chopra emphasized the difficulty that the selection committee would have while choosing India’s World Cup team.

The former opener for India has said that Kishan’s position might be in peril and that it could not be because of his performance but rather because of the needs of the team. I believe Ishan’s position is not contingent on his performances, Chopra remarked in a video that he shared on his YouTube channel. It depends on how evenly distributed the team is.

Due to injury, India’s wicketkeepers KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are no longer able to compete. Players like Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan have been given the chance to maintain wickets in their place. But since Sanju bats in the middle of the order and Kishan hits at the top, his choices may be influenced by the fact that the two batters play distinct positions.

If you’re choosing a second WK, he must be batting in the same position as your first-choice keeper, according to Aakash. It will be drastically different if he bats from a different position. Kishan, who has played effectively for India in ODIs, has generally batted at the top of the order and has scored 510 runs in the 13 innings he has played. He even scored 210 against Bangladesh last year with a double century, which is a significant accomplishment considering that just 8 batters before him have done so.

However, Shubman Gill has shown to be a terrific performer, therefore it is clear that he will occupy the opening position for India. As a consequence, the selectors have placed their trust in him.

Aakash believes that a second-choice keeper should bat in the same position as the first-choice keeper, which presents a dilemma for the selectors. More importantly, India has to improve the middle order, which has been destroyed by key player injuries and underwhelming performances from others.

Rohit Sharma and the Indian think tank would be seeking to solve this riddle as quickly as they can to give themselves the greatest opportunity to win the World Cup as it gets closer and closer.
