Honorable coaches Gyan Singh and Ashok Garg IOA is a member of the Ad-hoc Committee for Wrestling

Famous trainers Gyan Singh and Ashok Garg have been added by the Indian Olympic Association to the ad hoc committee overseeing the Wrestling Federation of India after Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh resigned from the position after complaints of sexual harassment made by female wrestlers.

Notably, Anurag Thakur, the sports minister, said on Wednesday that two coaches will be a part of the committee since they needed individuals with technical knowledge before the Asian Games trials.

The two coaches have been appointed with the Asian Games selection trials in mind, according to Kalyan Chaubey, joint secretary and acting CEO of the IOA, who also added that the ad hoc committee led by BS Bajwa has successfully overseen the national team’s participation in international competitions in addition to conducting various age-group trials.

He had earlier in the day expressed his pleasure with the trials held at the SAI facility in Sonepat by the IOA-appointed ad-hoc committee in preparation for the Asian U-15 & U-20 Wrestling Championship.

“I traveled to Sonepat to see the current wrestler selection trials up close and to speak with the competitors. The selection camp was a much-needed respite for these 2500 young athletes, who have expressed delight to be back in the arena, and I must add that I’m happy with the fair and transparent handling of the trials, ” Chaubey remarked.

“The IOA’s first objective was to restore order to the Wrestling Federation of India’s (WFI) daily operations. The Bhupender Singh Bajwa and Suma Shirur-led ad hoc committee was established with this exact goal in mind. To make sure that our young athletes have the chance to represent India in the next international tournaments, we are collaborating with the ad-hoc committee. The U-17 and U-23 camp was the first round of selection trials, which we finished today, he said.
