An Upgrade For Pakistani Test Captain Shan Masood On The PCB’s Central Contract List

Shan Masood, the captain of the Test team, has been upgraded from Category D to Category B in his central contract category, according to a PCB announcement on Thursday. This choice is in accordance with PCB regulation, which states that a centrally contracted player below Category A or B will have their contract increased to Category B for the length of their leadership.

With this action, Shan Masood’s contractual status has been adjusted in accordance with the team’s acknowledgment of his leadership position.

Masood replaced Babar Azam as Pakistan’s Test captain on November 15, and his first task as the captain of the team in the 2023–25 World Test Championship cycle will be to lead the team in the next three-game series against Australia, which begins in Perth on December 14.

With four hundreds to his credit and 1597 runs at an average of 28.5 in 30 Test matches, the left-handed hitter has made an impact. Pakistan will play its next two Tests in Australia at Melbourne (December 26–30) and Sydney (January 3–7, 2024) after the first Test in Perth (December 14–18).

When questioned about receiving a Category D central contract before to the team’s departure for Australia, Masood had said that he didn’t care what grade of contract he was handed.

Pakistan has always been first for me. I don’t care about categories; getting centrally contracted is a great honor. I’m taking advantage of the chance and moving forward. I don’t care whatever category I fall under since the selection committee makes that decision,” Masood said.
