In a friendly match, Barcelona loses 3-2 to Club America

Barcelona fell 3-2 to Mexico’s America in a friendly game played in Dallas, Texas, on Thursday despite playing a youthful team and having little rest. Marc Guiu scored in the 28th minute and youthful Lamine Yamal scored in the sixth, as Barcelona defeated bottom team Almeria 3-2 in La Liga the day before. However, the recently crowned Mexican champions, America, overcame a late deficit to win the Cotton Bowl thanks to goals from Colombian Julian Quinones in the 12th and 50th minutes and Henry Martin in the 82nd.

Many players from Barcelona’s second squad were employed by coach Xavi Hernandez, although five players who began the game the day before—Joao Cancelo, Andreas Christensen, Fermin Lopez, Joao Felix, and Robert Lewandowski—also saw action.

“It was a great game, both America and Barcelona offered a spectacle, chances, goals and we gave opportunities to young and very young players,” Xavi said to TUDN. “The older ones… logically, we played a game yesterday and we were tired but I think people enjoyed it.”

The financially struggling Catalan squad will get almost $5 million for the friendly.

“We have to adapt to the economic situation of the club,” remarked Xavi.
