India takes home nine medals in the 2023 Asian Armwrestling Cup

The Indian armwrestling contingent put on an unmatched exhibition of ability and commitment to win an incredible nine medals in the just finished Asian Armwrestling Cup 2023, putting their supremacy in the forefront once again.

This incredible accomplishment not only confirms India’s status as one of the top teams in the Asian armwrestling circuit, but it also highlights the country’s skill in the sport.

Three Gold, two Silver, and four Bronze Medals were among the nine medals that the Indian team took home. Para-athlete BV Srinivas headed the group; this may be the first time a para-athlete has led an Indian sports contingent. In addition to being a personal fitness trainer with his own startup called BVS Fitness Source, Srinivas has been involved in arm wrestling for the last four years. He placed fourth in the 2019 World Armwrestling Championship in Romania and took home the Silver Medal in the Disabled Standing Category in the 2019 National Armwrestling Championship in Bhilai.

Srinivas competed in the 90kg Para division on both the left and right sides, winning gold in both. Laxman Singh Bhandari won a silver medal in the Grand Master Left-hand position and a gold medal in the 70kg Grand Master category (right-hand position). In the Para 75kg+ division, Krishna Kumar took home the silver medal (right-hand position). In the Para 85kg+ division, Shrimant Jha won the bronze medal in the right-hand position. In the meanwhile, Wanda Syiemiong (60 kg) and Airikmenlang Shabong (50 kg) won the bronze in the right-hand position. Senebi Syngkli took up the bronze medal in the senior 55 kg left-handed division. An important accomplishment for the para-athletes was that India finished third overall in the Para Competition.

The People’s Armwrestling Federation India (PAFI) president, Preeti Jhangiani, expressed her joy in the accomplishments of the Indian armwrestlers at the Asian Armwrestling Cup in 2023. “The Indian armwrestlers have left their mark on history at the Asian Armwrestling Cup 2023,” the speaker said. Their relentless commitment has elevated our country’s pride to unprecedented heights in addition to securing triumphs.
