Indian Wells: Alcaraz pulls it off once again

In the Indian Wells final on Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Daniil Medvedev 7-6(5) 6-1 to successfully retain his title.

In a repeat of the championship match from the previous year, Alcaraz got off to a sloppy start, making mistakes all over the court, falling down 0-3. However, he picked up his game and won the first set after his Russian opponent’s forehand went wide in the tiebreak.

When Medvedev left another forehand wide on match point, the Spaniard roared and raised his arms in the air, cruising through the second set. Against Medvedev’s 11 winners, second seed Alcaraz hammered 25, and he was particularly potent on his opponent’s second serve.

During the championship presentation, Alcaraz said to Medvedev, “I like playing these kinds of matches with you.” “Perhaps there will be more finals soon.”

Iga Swiatek, ranked number one in the world, easily defeated Maria Sakkari, ranked ninth, in the championship match, winning 6-4, 6-0.

Swiatek’s accurate serving and quick defense were too much for her Greek opponent in a repeat of the 2022 championship match, as the Pole won the last eight games to wrap up a tournament in which she did not drop a set. “I’m really happy and proud of myself,” she said.
