Injury puts Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah in jeopardy of missing the 2023 Asia Cup; Pakistan calls backups

Due to injuries sustained during Pakistan’s Super 4 match against India at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the speed combo of Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah may not play in the 2023 Asia Cup.

As soon as possible, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) summoned in backup players Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan for the rest of the competition. Although the extent of Haris and Naseem’s ailments are unknown, it has been learned that both pacers won’t likely play in Pakistan’s Super 4 match against Sri Lanka on Thursday.

Babar Azam may also be concerned since the injury occurred just before the ODI World Cup was about to begin.

“This is only a precautionary step with the players’ health and fitness in mind before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup starts next month. The team’s medical staff will continue to keep an eye on Haris and Naseem. If Naseem or Haris are declared out for the next seven days, the team management would merely ask the ACC technical committee for a substitute, the PCB said in a late-Monday media statement.

Due to weather delays, the India vs. Pakistan game was spread out across two days. The remaining 25.5 overs have to be completed by The Men in Green on Monday. However, the PCB subsequently reported that Haris was not seen on the field because the pacer had complained of “discomfort in his right flank”. Rauf was given rest as a precaution even though scans showed no tear.

Naseem left the pitch in the 49th over after suffering a hand injury.

In cricket, Virat Kohli hit his 47th ODI century and KL Rahul also reached a century as India crushed Pakistan by a record 228 runs in the Super Four match of the Asia Cup on Sunday. The game was disrupted by rain.

India’s largest victory against its bordering neighbors in terms of runs is this one. As Kohli (122 not out off 94 deliveries) and Rahul (111 not out off 106 balls), who hit his sixth ODI century, pounded a helpless Pakistan into submission, India registered an impressive 356 for 2. The Babar Azam-led team’s pursuit came to an end at 128 for 8 when Kuldeep Yadav (5/25) cut them down.
