Inter Milan defeats Lazio 2-1 in the Serie A Champions League warm-up match in Torino

With their 1-0 victory against Torino on Saturday, Inter Milan warmed up for the Champions League final and guaranteed third place in Serie A.

In Turin, Marcelo Brozovic scored the game’s lone goal in the 37th minute when he turned on the outskirts of the box and fired in his third goal of the year to give Inter an 11th victory in their previous 12 games.

With the victory, Simone Inzaghi’s team climbed into second place before of their match against Manchester City in Istanbul the following weekend, but they were quickly passed by Lazio, who defeated Empoli 2-0.

Inter is now 11 points ahead of Atalanta in fifth position in Europe’s premier club tournament, which they were already guaranteed a spot in for the next season.

We’ll get a day off tomorrow before a busy week, Inzaghi told DAZN.

It will be the 57th game of the season, and the 56 games that came before it gave us the opportunity to play this one.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan lost out to Brozovic for a spot in Inter’s starting lineup for the championship game.

Had Romelu Lukaku, Edin Dzeko’s competition for a spot in Inzaghi’s starting lineup, not played well and hit the post with a late attempt, they would have won more comfortably.

With one week to go before their matchup with English champions City in Turkey, Inzaghi chose a potent lineup to face Torino, a hard-charging squad that was expecting to play in the European football.

Ivan Juric’s Torino are in ninth position, three points behind eighth-place Fiorentina, and might earn a berth in Europe if UEFA disqualifies seventh-place Juventus for financial misconduct.

With the help of a header from Alessio Romagnoli and a stunning finish from Luis Alberto in stoppage time, Lazio easily defeated Empoli.

After winning the Scudetto 23 years ago, Maurizio Sarris’ team finished in first place in the league after the victory.

Cristian Buonaiuto’s first-half penalty and Frank Tsadjout’s thunderous late goal gave relegated Cremonese a 2-0 victory against Salernitana to send them out of Serie A on a high note.
