IPL Disappointment Despite Desire to Play for Indian Test Team: Sasikanth KV

KV Sasikanth of Andhra had a strong Ranji Trophy season, picking up 29 wickets in 7 games to help his team get to the 2022–23 quarterfinals. The tall seamer was rewarded for his ball-handling prowess by earning a spot in the South Zone team for the Duleep Trophy, which begins on June 28 in Bengaluru.

The precise medium pacer formerly served as a net bowler for RCB, so he also has some IPL experience under his belt. He shares the desire of most young people to play in the lucrative league, but he is now more concerned with the overall objective.

“I was a little sad that I wasn’t selected for the IPL. However, my goal is to compete for the Indian Test squad. I’m just concentrating on it. If we make the Test squad, IPL and all of that will come immediately. Sasikanth adds, “I’m not really thinking much about it; if it comes, terrific.

In First-class cricket, Sasikanth has a penchant for picking out the winning wickets and bowling with an incredible economy rate of 2.71.

The medium pacer discussed his motto of “not giving away easy runs” and how consistently delivering in the appropriate spots has helped him maintain that type of bowling economy rate in an interview with CricketNext last year.

Throughout the red-ball season, he stayed to his plan and didn’t overcomplicate his strategy whether using the bat or the ball.

I’m simply concentrating on the essentials. In the Ranji Trophy, I just follow it in whatever I do. I practice the fundamentals of bowling and hitting. The majority of the time, I bat quickly, but I may sometimes bat slowly. Sasikanth said, “I’m simply trying to play on the merit of the ball and attempt to play a bit longer.

Further discussing his fitness regimen, the right-armer said that he has been focusing on strength training and bowling endurance.

“ACA runs several camps. We visit our academy, where all the amenities are accessible. There, we practice our exercises and train under the direction of our instructors. Personally, I place more emphasis on the fitness issue. For me, I prioritize strength training. Fast bowlers, as you may know, need greater strength and bowling stamina. As a result, I bowl a lot of endurance games while simultaneously lifting weights.

“I work out three days a week for strength and two to three days a week for endurance. Our trainer thus oversees our workload. In order to remain in the zone, I bowl full runs one day and reduce runs the next,” explains Sasikanth.

Changing Formats

Beginning with the Duleep Trophy, the domestic season will thereafter include the Deodhar Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Ranji Trophy. As the season goes on, every player will be expected to make that smooth switch between forms.

When asked about this “shift,” the Andhra cricketer, who has 105 wickets to his record in 29 First-class matches, said that it is important to master the fundamentals. He noted that making this adjustment is a little tricky.

“Making the move is definitely challenging, but we must proceed as soon as feasible. Cricket operates in this way. If the fundamentals are sound, we can go on to the variations and everything else. Simply be consistent with the red ball. You may immediately switch to the white ball after you are proficient with the red ball. I am aware that there are several versions of the white ball,” Sasikanth adds.
