Lance Klusener becomes an assistant coach for the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2024 IPL

The legendary Lance Klusener of South Africa has joined the Lucknow Super Giants as an assistant coach. He will collaborate closely with Justin Langer, the head coach, in the next Indian Premier League 2024 season.

The fast-bowling all-rounder Klusener, who represented South Africa in 49 Test matches and 171 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) between 1996 and 2004, is also the coach of the Durban Super Giants, a SA20 team owned by the same company that runs the LSG franchise. The South African formerly served as Zimbabwe’s and South Africa’s batting coach in addition to serving as head coach of Afghanistan from September 2019 to December 2021.

Lucknow Super Giants sent a statement on their official website that said, “We wish him a fantastic upcoming IPL campaign and are sure he will contribute greatly to the franchise during his time in India.”

Klusener will work with the LSG crew, which also includes fielding coach Jonty Rhodes, spin-bowling consultant Pravin Tambe, bowling coach Morne Morkel, head coach Justin Langer, assistant coach Sridharan Sriram, and strategy consultant MSK Prasad.

Klusener has previously served as a coach with the Mumbai Indians in the 2011 Indian Premier League. He has also worked with teams in the Indian domestic cricket circuit, Delhi and Tripura. Klusener has experience on the franchise cricket circuit having worked for the Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, the Guyana Amazon Warriorz in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the Khulna Tigers in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and the Cape Town Samp Army in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

On March 24, LSG will play the Rajasthan Royals in the first match of the 2024 Indian Premier League at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. On March 30, the team will host Punjab Kings at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow for its first home game of the 2024 campaign. Since 2022, LSG has participated in two IPL seasons and advanced to the playoffs each time.
