Madison Keys wins the Eastbourne title to put a marker down for Wimbledon

Madison Keys won the Eastbourne International title in England for the second time on Saturday, nine years after her first triumph, sending a warning shot to her Wimbledon opponents.

In one hour and 42 minutes, the American defeated the Russian Daria Kasatkina, winning 6-2 7-6 (13) to win her sixth WTA championship overall and her first career victory on grass since 2016.

Keys later said, “I enjoy coming here and playing; being able to win the championship here twice now, certainly makes me have very nice memories of Eastbourne.

Keys, who is ranked 25th in the WTA, will now concentrate on the next Wimbledon Grand Slam competition, which runs from July 3 to July 16. In the first round, she will play British wild card Sonay Kartal.
