Men’s and women’s cricket teams from India will compete in the Asian Games

The BCCI announced on Friday that the men’s and women’s cricket teams from India will compete in the Asian Games in Hangzhou in September-October.

The Asian Games will take place between September 23 and October 8. India will be participating in the tournament for the first time with a cricket squad.

Notably, cricket has only twice been in the Asian Games, in 2010 and 2014. However, it was not included in the 2018 event in Jakarta.

The men’s tournament will feature a second-string Indian squad, while the women’s competition will feature a full-strength team since the Men’s ODI World Cup begins on October 5.

According to the BCCI, “Through effective planning, communication, and coordination, the BCCI aims to navigate those challenges successfully and contribute to the national cause by fielding a team in both the men’s and women’s categories (at the Asian Games) in line with the Government of India’s directions.”

Sri Lanka won the championship in 2014, while Bangladesh won the gold medal in cricket in 2010.

The T20 format will be used for both the men’s and women’s competitions.
