Niroshan Dickwella was recalled after Kusal Perera’s exclusion from Sri Lanka’s Twenty20 International match against Bangladesh

After Kusal Perera was ruled out of the forthcoming Twenty20 Internationals against Bangladesh owing to a respiratory ailment, Sri Lanka has recalled wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella. Dickwella, 30, represented Sri Lanka in Test matches last year, but he hasn’t played in T20Is or white-ball cricket since 2022 and 2022, respectively. In 28 T20Is, he has averaged 18.46 and amassed only one half-century.

Dickwella is expected to join the team on Saturday, according to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), since Perera was not included in the squad that departed for Bangladesh on Thursday. Sadeera Samarawickrama is another wicketkeeper on the Sri Lankan team.

In lieu of regular captain Wanindu Hasaranga, who will serve a two-match suspension for violating the ICC Code of Conduct for remarks he made against umpire Lyndon Hannibal during the third Twenty20 International against Afghanistan on February 21, batsman Charith Asalanka will command Sri Lanka for the first two Twenty20 Internationals.

In the history of international cricket, Asalanka will be leading Sri Lanka for the first time. The Men’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in the West Indies and the USA from June 1–29, will provide Bangladesh and Sri Lanka with an opportunity to hone their preparations. The three-match T20I series will begin play in Sylhet on March 4.

Wanindu Hasaranga (captain), Charith Asalanka (vice-captain), Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dilshan Madushanka, Nuwan Thushara, Matheesha Pathirana, Akila Dananjaya, Binura Fernando, Kamindu Mendis, Avishka Fernando, Jeffrey Vandersay, and Niroshan Dickwella are the Sri Lankan team for the Bangladesh Twenty20 internationals.
