The Mumbai Indians and Hardik Pandya were harshly fined after their defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants

Impact player Nuwan Thushara and other members of the playing XI, including Hardik Pandya, have been fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for playing slow overs in the 48th Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

“Mr. Hardik Pandya, Captain, Mumbai Indians, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 48 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on April 30, 2024,” the BCCI said in a statement.

“Pandya was fined INR 24 lakh since it was his team’s second offense of the season in relation to minimum over-rate offenses under the IPL’s Code of Conduct. According to BCCI, each member of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, received a punishment of either INR 6 Lac or 25% of their individual match costs, whichever was lower.

Now that the Mumbai Indians are already having trouble in the competition, Hardik has to be cautious of the over-rate because one more such offense might result in a game-long suspension.

At the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday, April 30, the five-time IPL champions dropped their sixth game of the current IPL season as the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) triumphed.

Hardik identified the four-wicket defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as the result of the early wicket loss. He praised Nehal Wadhera as well for his hard-working 46-run knock.

During the post-match presentation, Pandya said, “I think losing early wickets is tough to recover from and that’s why we couldn’t do it (recover) today.”

“You still need to hit and see the ball. That’s the type of season we’ve had so far—we simply missed those balls and moved on. I’ve always thought that if you put forth your best effort, you will succeed. This game teaches you a lot of stuff. It’s been amazing. Nehal Wadhera performed well last year, in my opinion. He didn’t have many chances to play early in the competition, but he will play extensively in the IPL and ultimately represent India.”
