UEFA Champions League: Harry Kane helps Bayern Munich overcome Galatasaray 2-1 to secure a spot in the round of sixteen

Harry Kane’s two goals in the closing ten minutes of Wednesday’s 2-1 victory against Galatasaray earned Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer’s nickname, “a phenomenon.” This earned the home team a berth in the Champions League knockout round.

Neuer said to DAZN, “We talked about how we can rely on him before the game.” “He’s a phenomenon, and having him on the team makes us proud.”

Bayern had won their previous 16 Champions League group stage matches in a row, but the streak seemed to be coming to an end with 10 minutes left in the encounter and the scores tied at 0-0.

But Kane had other ideas, leading into a free-kick from Joshua Kimmich to advance his team.

Two offside challenges were made against the goal, but Kane continued to score with four minutes left to secure the win and extend his incredible record of 19 goals in 15 games in all competitions since joining from Tottenham in the summer.

Kane said of his explosive start to life in Germany, “I’m enjoying it.”

“They sent me here for that reason. I like being on the field, scoring goals, and most of all, winning games as a striker.

Although Cedric Bakambu gave the visitors hope with a goal late into injury time, Bayern managed to hold on for a one-goal triumph.

Galatasaray, who had battled hard at home and saw Bayern’s 3-1 victory seem much more convincing than it did, lost yet another match and were eliminated from the group, but they still have two games left to advance.

After the away leg, we anticipated a difficult match, but I felt we performed better, stated Kane.

“We played better in the second half. Overall, I’m glad we qualified and that we deserved to win.

Jamal Musiala left Bayern late in the first half, hobbling off the pitch while holding his hamstring. The Germany attacker was waving to the bench.

The manager of Bayern, Thomas Tuchel, said that Musiala had “no chance at all” of participating in Saturday’s Bundesliga encounter against Heidenheim. “It’s not good news.”

Galatasaray’s strongest period was early in the second half, spurred on by a fervent away fan base in the Bavarian city. Canadian defender Alphonso Davies was fortunate to escape a second yellow card for a tackle on Lucas Torreira.

Shortly after, the visitors had the ball in the net, but Torreira’s goal was disallowed for the smallest of offsides.

As the clock ran down, Kimmich floated a free kick towards Kane, who headed the ball in for the first goal as captain of England.

The linesman flagged offside, cutting short Bayern’s jubilation, but Kane’s goal stood.

In order to secure a ticket in the Champions League knockout rounds and a 17th consecutive win, Kane scored his second goal after taping in a feed from Mathys Tel from close range.

In the third minute of injury time, Bakambu gave Galatasaray a response, but it was too little, too late, for the visitors against a sharp Bayern team.

Although Tuchel’s squad was “a little sloppy” and “inefficient,” he acknowledged that they “perhaps felt the strain” of playing so soon after thumping Borussia Dortmund 4-0.

Six-time champions Bayern has now set another Champions League record by going 38 games without losing in the group stages.
