With a blazing six-wicket haul for only 21 runs, Mohammed Siraj destroyed Sri Lanka’s batting order as the reigning champions were defeated by just 50 runs in the Asia Cup 2023 final. Siraj lost the opportunity to complete a hat-trick and become only the third bowler and second Indian after Kapil Dev to do it, and was instead forced to pursue the ball all the way to the boundary ropes.

There was a lot of discussion before to the game about how rain would interfere with the final, but the way the game played out meant that the weather had little chance since the Sri Lankan squad could only score 50 runs.

Siraj took six wickets, four of which came in the fourth over of the Sri Lankan innings, setting a record for the Indian bowlers. The first four wickets Siraj took came in only 16 balls.
