8 interfaith couples in UP petitioned for protection, but the Allahabad High Court denied them

PRAYAGRAJ: The Allahabad High Court has rejected the applications for life protection submitted by eight interfaith couples, stating that their weddings did not comply with the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.
The illegal conversion from one faith to another by deception, force, fraud, undue influence, compulsion, and allurement is forbidden under the anti-conversion legislation enacted in Uttar Pradesh in 2021.

Through individual petitions, the couples had petitioned the court to request protection and non-interference in their married life. These petitions were rejected by the court on several days ranging from January 10 to January 16.
Judge Saral Srivastava said in the rulings that these were instances of interfaith weddings, which were illegal since the anti-conversion statute had not been observed.
In a total of eight instances, three Hindu men and five Muslim men had married Muslim women. In the orders, the court made reference to the petitioners’ faiths.
The court denied the petitioners’ claims, stating that the relief they had requested could not be granted under the circumstances. The writ petition is thus denied.”
The petitioners may, however, submit new writ petitions if they solemnize their marriage after adhering to the required legal process, the court said.
