Yogi government’s budget of Rs 275 crore is intended to eliminate potholes from UP’s highways

The Public Works Department has budgeted Rs 275 crore this year across all of the state’s districts to guarantee that roads in Uttar Pradesh are free of potholes. These initiatives are moving forward quickly, and the state government is closely tracking their development.

Statistics from the Public Works Department show that UP has a 100% success record in meeting the goal of eliminating potholes between 2022 and 2023. 93% of the restoration work has already been finished, and work is now being done on the last 7%.

PWD data shows that the state’s goal of patching potholes on 100,867 roadways across 10 departments was accomplished. According to statistics for 2022–2023, this endeavor has been completely successful. In the meanwhile, 98,355 roads have had their repair projects finished. In this way, between 2022 and 2023, 93% of the work was finished. The PWD is consistently working on the last 7% of the project while also reviewing and keeping an eye on all other projects.

Along with the UP PWD, the National Highways (PWD), National Highway Authority of India (NHAI-West UP), National Highway Authority of India (NHAI-East UP), Mandi Parishad Department, Panchayati Raj Department, Irrigation Department, Rural Development Department (UPRRDA), Urban Development Department, Sugarcane Department, Department of Urban Development, and Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department are the principal departments coordinating these efforts.

It is significant that a specific timetable has been established for the state’s road rejuvenation project. This states that a four-year time restriction has been established for state roads, a four-year time limit has been set for important district roads, a five-year time limit has been set for minor district roads, and an eight-year time limit has been set for the rejuvenation of rural roads.

The determination of bids, frequent monitoring, technical quality evaluation, budget allocation, and patching and beautification plans of roads are only a few of the features that have been methodically organized within this framework. The focus is on conducting frequent meetings at the district, zone, and departmental directorate levels to assess the progress of all linked initiatives.
